Children Behind Bars

Hundreds of thousands of children are in detention at the moment, not just in prisons, such as portrayed here, but also in other domains such as detention camps. Medical, mental health and social risk is increased significantly for children in detention, and during this pandemic, these children are particularly vulnerable; morbidity and mortality significantly increased.

Human rights and children’s rights must be protected in every context with clinical initiatives and agendas, along with political initiatives and agendas. In a world and environment where conflicting information is available, a few certainties will always remain – first do no harm.

This principle can be applied to every decision and initiative, and will ensure that children are protected.
